I got this grilling/smoking mat from one of our members to test for him. I told him I would post my results here good or bad and he agreed.
I have been using an aluminum mat for several years now. In fact I have one for every rack. I thought I would test them against each other today because I had to precook a ton of bacon for a breakfast I’m doing at work tomorrow and the smoker seemed like the best place to do it.
Here’s the food:
Here we have the sliced pork belly bacon and Canadian bacon:
and for the house a pork loin stuffed with cornbread crumbs, onions, red peppers, celery and lots of provolone cheese!
The rack is a bit smaller than the grates but the mat can be purchased in any size you specify even round. I asked for 20 x 14 mats for the
Smoke Vault.
My old stand by racks:
The new Non-Stick mats
Installed in the smoker:
Bacon on the rack on the top grate:
Bacon on the second and third grates on the Mats:
The cheese leaked out of the pork loin all over the Mat – this is going to be a real PITA to clean!
What a sticky mess on my grates:
And cheese cooked in all over the mat:
OoooOOOooo that’s hot but it peels off nicely!
I threw the mat in the sink and the cheese came off just running water on it! It cleaned up really nice:
When cleaning up after the bacon I had to d a good bit of scrubbing with the scotch brite sponge pad on the aluminum sheet but the mat came clean with a light mop with the sponge.
Another thing I found really great. When I try to move the aluminum rack I burn my fingers every time, but I can’t grab the thing with oven mitts on. The mat doesn’t get hot at all! I picked it up bare handed and dumped the finished bacons in a bowl. Big plus IMHO!
It’s was also strong enough to pick up the pork loin and carry it from the smoker to the kitchen – no problem.
This is a really good product and I give it my stamp of approval and a high recommendation! I will be get a few more f these for the other grates and for my other smokers as well!
Oh I almost forgot ... here's tomorrows supper!
